First televised RI gubernatorial debate this week

Providence, R.I. – Rhode Island's gubernatorial candidates are facing off this week in their first live televised debate.The candidates will meet Thursday evening at the University of Rhode Island in a debate airing on WPRI-TV.

They're vying to replace Republican Gov. Don Carcieri who is barred by term limits from seeking another four-year term.

The six invited candidates include Democrats Frank Caprio, the state general treasurer, and Attorney General Patrick Lynch; Republicans John Robitaille and Victor Moffitt; former Republican Sen. Lincoln Chafee, and Ken Block, a candidate from the nascent Moderate Party.
