PROVIDENCE, RI – The National Weather Service is issuing a flood warning for areas surrounding the Pawtucket River in Cranston and Warwick. But Governor Chafee's office doesn't expect water damage anywhere near the scale of last year's historic flood.
Spokeswoman Chris Hunsinger says Rhode Islanders should be careful, but not alarmed.
"The word flood in Rhode Island has a different context over the past few years," she says. "But we just expect that there will be some ponding and some minor flooding, we wanted people to be aware."
Hunsinger says residents should drive slowly and carefully and pay attention to traffic reports. During the heaviest periods of rainfall this morning, portions of RT 10 and RT 6 were closed due to flooding.
