Follies Tickets Still Available
If yesterday’s dress rehearsal is any indication, this year’s Providence Newspaper Guild Follies will be the funniest in years!
The Follies, of course, is the original spoof in song, skit and stand-up comedy of all things Rhode Island, especially our state’s politicians. This year, among the stars will be Linc, Gina, Angel, Jack, Jim, Sheldon, Elizabeth and David!!
Tickets have sold briskly for the event, which is always held on the last Friday evening in February. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the show which was born after a bitter 13-day 1973 strike by the guild against the Providence Journal. The idea was to heal the wounds from the strike and bring together the state’s business, political, labor and journalistic elite for an evening of fun.
There are a few good tickets left for the big show this Friday (Feb.22nd) at the Venus de Milo in Swansea, Mass. The cocktail hour begins at 7 p.m., followed by the famous Venus buffet, a two Lipitor dinner replete with lobster and prime rib. Then the show and of course, the appearance of a mystery guest drawn from the sphere of politics. Past Mystery Guests has included Alan Fung, John Kerry, Ron Machtley, Claudine Schneider, Linc Chafee, John Chafee, Nancy Mayer, Barney Frank, Buddy Cianci, Joe Paolino Jr., Richard Licht, Ed DiPrete, Bruce Sundlun, Jack Reed, Claiborne Pell, Patrick Kennedy, Bill Bradley, Bob Flanders, Joe Garrahy, Bill Murphy and Elizabeth Roberts.
For tickets, all the guild at 401-421-9466, You will be satisfied!
