Former judge takes over Central Falls mayoral duties
Central Falls, R.I. – A retired judge who was given financial oversight of Central Falls has now taken over duties as mayor.
Mark Pfeiffer on Monday demoted Mayor Charles Moreau to advisory status and instructed him to return his city cell phone, car and other city equipment. Moreau will now earn $1,000 every two weeks.
Pfeiffer also fired the city's personnel director.
Pfeiffer last week was appointed receiver of the financially struggling Central Falls, a square-mile city that deals with high poverty rates and budget deficits.
He takes over from Jonathan Savage, a lawyer who had been appointed temporary receiver.
