Former U.S. Attorney Neronha To Run For RI Attorney General

Sep 25, 2017

Peter F. Neronha of Jamestown, the former U.S. Attorney for Rhode Island, will announce his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Rhode Island attorney general.  Neronha, a Jamestown native and Democrat, will make his announcement on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Jamestown ferry landing.

A career state and federal prosecutor, Neronha  will be joined at his announcement by family, friends and community leaders. The current attorney general, Democrat Peter Kilmartin, is serving his second term and is term-limited so he cannot run for a third term.

Neronha was U.S. Attorney until March, 2017, when he and 45 other U.S. attorneys were ordered to resign by President Donald Trump. Neronha was appointed by former President Barack Obama and served from 2010 to 2017. Before being elevated to the top federal prosecutor job in Rhode Island, he served as an assistant U.S. attorney from 2001-2010. He was a Rhode Island state prosecutor from 1996 to 2002.
