Fung Calls For Immediate Release of Details on Pension Settlement
Republican gubernatorial candidate Allan Fung is calling for the immediate release of details about a settlement of the state pension dispute.
The federal mediation service that oversaw more than a year of closed-door talks plans to unveil the details during a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
In a statement, Fung say it’s past time to let local officials on what was discussed during months of closed-door talks.
“Cities and Towns throughout Rhode Island are struggling with one fiscal crisis after another and it is unconscionable for the governor and general treasurer to plan a press conference while keeping local officials in the dark,” Fung said in a statement.
The Cranston mayor says it’s wrong for local officials to be kept in the dark considering how the pension settlement could affect cities and towns.
Governor Lincoln Chafee and state Treasurer Gina Raimondo have cited a gag order imposed by a judge in declining to comment on the pension settlement.
Fung faces fellow Republican Ken Block in a two-way primary election this September.
