Gemma entering RI congressional race

Providence, R.I. – A fourth Democrat is jumping into the race to succeed Rep. Patrick Kennedy in Congress.

Anthony Gemma will officially announce his run Tuesday at a campaign kickoff at Providence Place mall.

Gemma joins a Democratic field that includes Providence Mayor David Cicilline, former Democratic Party Chairman Bill Lynch and state Rep. David Segal.

Gemma is a businessman and philanthropist. His family owns Gem Plumbing & Heating, well-known to many Rhode Islanders because of their ubiquitous ads. He has been the company's president and CEO.

The primary is scheduled for Sept. 14. The winner is likely to face Republican state Rep. John Loughlin.
