PROVIDENCE, RI – Republicans last night chose Mark Zaccaria as their new state party chairman. Zaccaria succeeds Ken McKay, who last month gave up the volunteer chairmanship to take a job in Washington, DC.
Zaccaria is a small businessman and lost campaigns against Democratic Congressman Jim Langevin in 2008 and 2010.
Consevative blogger Andrew Morse reports Zaccaria received 82 votes, compared with 59 for Raymond McKay (no relation to Ken McKay), and 36 for Tina McKendall.
Zaccaria says he plans to focus on fundraising to try to elect more Republicans to the General Assembly.
