PROVIDENCE, RI – Governor Lincoln Chafee denies that the state Economic Development Corporation is suffering from a lack of leadership.
A new director for the EDC isn't expected until after a review of the agency is completed. The EDC's chief financial officer is leaving her job, and the corporation has a number of vacancies on its board.
Chafee says he inherited many of the EDC's problems. "Well, we're going through a transition, but there's no vacuum of leadership. We have a quorum. We can still do business."
A veteran of the EDC, Bill Parsons, is leading the agency as an acting director for now.
Meanwhile, the state Senate has not yet slated a time to vote on Chafee's nominations to fill vacancies on the EDC board.
