Health Dept. Approves CharterCare, Prospect Deal
The Rhode Island Health Department has approved the affiliation of CharterCare with the California-based for-profit Prospect Medical Holdings. The state’s attorney general approved the deal last week.
Both agencies’ approvals carried some conditions. The health department will require the new organization – to be called Prospect CharterCARE – to participate in several health initiatives, including offering HIV testing to all emergency department visitors and developing a plan to reduce hospital re-admissions. Prospect will also be expected to eliminate 47 hospital beds across its system within three years.
