Rhode Islanders have until the end of the month to sign up for health coverage for 2018 under the Affordable Care Act.
The deadline to sign up for health coverage under Obamacare has already passed in most of the country, after the Trump administration adopted a shortened 45-day enrollment period for states on the federal exchange.
But in Rhode Island, which operates a state exchange, residents have until December 31st to choose -- and pay for --a 2018 health plan through HealthSourceRI.
Roughly 30,000 Rhode Islanders buy their coverage on the state’s Obamacare exchange. State health officials say this is the last chance for residents to purchase insurance with federal subsidies for 2018.
HealthSource RI is offering extended hours to help last minute shoppers select a plan.
Rhode Islanders can call HealthSource at at 1-855-840-4774 from 8 am to 10 pm or visit its walk-in center at 201 Wampanoag Trail, East Providence, until 8 p.m. The walk-in center also will be open Saturday, from 9 am-5 pm. Residents can enroll online anytime before Dec. 31st at www.HealthSourceRI.com.
