PROVIDENCE, R.I. – You've shoveled your sidewalk. You've plowed the driveway. But have you thought of looking up?
The Rhode Island Emergency Management agency says roof collapses are a very real possibility with this much snow. Agency director David Smith says flat roofs are particularly vulnerable, but sloped roofs can give out too.
"Many people are using roof rakes and so from the ground with a pvc pipe and a block of wood attached dragging some of that snow off the roof and helping to take a lot of that load off," he says.
Smith cautions if you have any doubt about the safety of raking your roof, call a professional to do it.
