How Ready Is Rhode Island For A Powerful Storm?

Recent hurricanes in Texas and the Caribbean have some Rhode Island coastal management officials concerned about how well the Ocean State is prepared for a similar event.

Grover Fugate is the director of the state’s Coastal Resources Management Council. He says while Rhode Island is better prepared to handle major storms than other places, the plans are outdated, and aren’t sufficient to handle increasingly powerful storms.

He spoke with Rhode Island Public Radio’s Chuck Hinman as Hurricane Irma is set to make landfall with the U.S. in the coming day.
