PROVIDENCE, RI – The commission responsible for overseeing the redevelopment of former I-195 land will hold its first meeting later this week.
The I-195 Redevelopment District Commission is set to meet Wednesday at the Rhode Island Foundation building in Providence. Commission chairman Colin Kane says the group also plans a November 5th workshop on the group's mission, staffing, legal requirements, and other issues.
"We've got to figure out roles and responsibilities," he says, "Not only that of the commission and our staff, but also how it works with the other organizations statewide."
Kane says the I-195 Commission will eventually look to hire an executive director. The relocation of Interstate 195 away from downtown Providence has made about 20 acres available for new development.
