Providence, RI – One of Rhode Island's virtues is its remarkably diverse, richly textured citizenry, many of whom emigrated from other nations. Thousands of Rhode Island's teenagers are growing up trying to navigate between the world of their ancestors and contemporary America - certainly not an easy task, as we hear from 17-year old, Margaret Garcia.
Garcia is a recent graduate of the Providence Academy for International Studies and plans to attend Holy Cross College. She composed her essay as a participant in College Visions, a Rhode Island-based program that empowers low income and first-generation college-bound students to pursue higher education.
