Providence, R.I. – Although Hurricane Igor is churning far off the eastern U.S. coast, it's bringing rough seas along the Rhode Island coast.
The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for Friday and Saturday. Meteorologist Charlie Foley says expect seas of 7 to 10 feet with swells of 5 to 7 feet. The high surf creates dangerous conditions for beach goers, says Foley.
"So I think it's a common sense approach when you have these very rough seas, don't get too close," he says.
Forecasters say the high surf and danger rip currents will continue through the weekend and possibly into next week.
