The informal launch of Senator Jack Reed's campaign for his fourth term is set to start Sunday evening with a packed fundraiser at the Providence Biltmore.
Reed already ranks 22nd for seniority among 100 senators, and there's more national attention about how he has one of the safest seats in the nation. Reed might have lost his distinction as the most popular pol in Rhode Island, but he still ranks high and his already-considerable influence continues to grow in the Senate. (Given all this, why is Reed is closing his Sunday fundraiser to the media?)
The Biltmore event is co-chaired by the three other members of the state's congressional delegation, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and Congressmen David Cicilline and Jim Langevin. The voluminous host committee includes Governor Lincoln Chafee and Stephanie Chafee; Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Roberts and Tom Roberts; Secretary of State Ralph Mollis; Treasurer Gina Raimondo and Andy Moffit; and Attorney General Peter Kilmartin.
Also, Providence Mayor Angel Taveras; George Caruolo: Buff and Johnnie Chace; Guillaume de Ramel; Ira and Suzanne Magaziner; Michael McMahon; William J. Murphy; Terrence Murray; Sheri and Don Sweizter; and a veritable who's who of others.
