Job fair gives veterans face time with employers
By CATHERINE WELCH
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – More than a dozen companies took part in a job fair Wednesday targeting Veterans.
The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training says the unemployment rate for veterans and civilians is about the same. Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training spokeswoman Laura Hart said veterans have a lot to offer the workplace.
"These are folks who have strong dependability and hierarchy skills. They understand how to follow through; a lot of them have a lot of specialized skills."
Turnout was strong at the job fair, said Hart, where every employer had openings. The state Department of Labor and Training also helps veterans by putting them at the top of the list for its Network Rhode Island job-matching service, she said.
