Jury Considers Case of Providence Police Officer
By Pamela Watts
Providence, RI – The trial of Providence police officer accused of assaulting two parking lot attendants a year ago was placed in the hands of the jury Thursday. In closing arguments, both sides accused the other of misleading the jury. Prosecutors suggested the testimony of Officer Peter Flynn and other officers should not be believed. They maintain Flynn acted in self-defense, but did not try to intimidate two parking lot attendants during a dispute about the towing of another officer?s car. The defense suggested some of the evidence presented by pro secutors had been tampered with. The defense insists Peter Flynn did not do the damage to a table shown to the jury, although Flynn admits he did hit the table with a baseball bat.
In the final day of testimony Wednesday, Flynn told his side of the story. WRNI?s Pamela Watts filed this report for Morning Edition.
