Langevin: we need a cyber security workforce

PROVIDENCE, RI – Congressman Jim Langevin is delivering the keynote address Wednesday in Washington at a conference centered on cyber security. The Defense Department is hosting the event looking at how to develop a workforce trained to detect and prevent cyber attacks.

Langevin is co-founder of the Congressional Cybersecurity Caucus and has helped develop a team in Rhode Island that's preparing for possible cyber disruptions.

"Anything ranging from our national grid and our power grid, financial services sector, look at our sewage and water systems," says Langevin. Those are the types of things that the state entities would look at."

Langevin says Rhode Island is ahead of most states for having a team that's anticipating a possible cyber security disruption. He has been working with schools and colleges to get students interested in careers in the cyber security field.
