The Lifespan hospital system has submitted a bid to buy its rival, Care New England. Lifespan officials say they believe combining the organizations would quote “enhance the clinical and academic missions of both institutions, “ and make for better, more cost-effective care for patients in Rhode Island.
But Care New England officials aren’t tipping their hand. In a statement, the organization acknowledges that Lifespan is among a number of potential partners. Care New England says the process is still confidential. If the organizations join forces, they would make the largest single health care system in Rhode Island, encompassing the majority of the state’s hospitals and hundreds of thousands of patients
