PROVIDENCE, R.I. – After eight years in office, outgoing Republican Governor Don Carcieri is handing over the reins of state government to Independent Lincoln Chafee. Carcieri came to the office from a background in business and has since had to navigate through the response to the Station Nightclub Fire, an infamous State Police raid on a Narragansett Indian smoke shop and the troubled economy.
