PROVIDENCE, RI – The Lowes hardware store in North Kingstown will be closing, and is one of 20 stores across the country shutting its doors.
Lowe's says the North Kingstown store will stay open for about four weeks in what the company calls "liquidation mode" to sell off as much discounted merchandise as possible.
Once the location shuts down, its 110 employees will receive pay and benefits for 60 to 90 days. Lowes is closing 20 stores across the country, a third of them are in New England. Almost 2,000 people total will lose their jobs.
Lowe's made $48.8 billion in fiscal year 2010, and is the second largest home improvement store in the world.
