PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Attorney General Patrick Lynch is suing the Albion Fire District for allegedly violating the state's open meetings law.
The lawsuit, which seeks a civil fine, contends the fire district posted an insufficient agenda for its May 11th meeting. The agenda indicated the fire district would discuss "old business" and "committee reports" but did not state it would include updates on public records requests or the status of a legislative package.
Rhode Island's open meetings act requires that all public bodies state the nature of the business to be discussed. The attorney general has warned the Albion Fire District of inadequate meeting notices twice before.
