Man arraigned for defacing synagogue

Warwick, R.I. – A Warwick man has been arraigned on charges of spray-painting a swastika on the side of a synagogue.

Ryan N. Johnson was arraigned Thursday on a charge of desecrating a public space. He did not enter a plea to that charge, a felony, but pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor vandalism charge.

Police say Johnson and a 16-year-old boy defaced Temple Am David in Warwick with a swastika. The swastika was discovered June 3.

The Providence Journal reports that Johnson declined to comment when leaving court.
