House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello and Senate President Dominick Ruggerio plan to sit down Tuesday, away from the Statehouse, to discuss the state budget impasse.
House spokesman Larry Berman confirmed the meeting.
It remains unclear if the get-together will produce an end to the stalemate.
The dispute erupted when the Senate added a last-minute amendment to the state budget late last month. Lawmakers wound up leaving the Statehouse without approving the spending plan for the fiscal year that began July first.
Ruggerio and Mattiello had not spoken with each other about the impasse until they ran into each other at event last Thursday. Mattiello then called Ruggerio to set up the meeting.
For now, the state is operating under the terms of the budge for the last fiscal year.
