Medina faces potential prosecution
By IAN DONNIS
PROVIDENCE, RI – Leo Medina, a freshman state representative from Providence is facing possible prosecution for misrepresenting himself as a lawyer. And the state Republican Party is calling on him to resign.
A state Supreme Court committee reviewed the case against Democrat Leo Medina after a series of complaints. The committee found that Medina and/or his business violated laws governing the unauthorized practice of law.
Among other findings, the committee found that Medina profited from services performed by lawyers. The Supreme Court responded by ordering the case sent to the attorney general's office for civil and/or criminal prosecution.
Medina couldn't be reached for comment. He won election last year after defeating incumbent Democrat Joseph Almeida in a primary. Medina represents part of Providence's South Side.
