Mike Solomon Fund-Raiser: Setting stage for mayoral run?
The votes have barely been counted from the Nov. 6th election. But the pols aren’t taking any time off from their planning and fund-raising for the 2014 election cycle. Case in point: The December 10, 2012 fund-raising time Providence City Council President Michael Solomon is holding at the Roger Williams Park Casino. Democrat Solomon, who is a likely candidate for mayor if Mayor Angel Taveras decides to run for governor, is asking for donations of $50, $100 or $250 to his Friends of Michael Solomon committee.
Among the sponsors: U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse. And Taveras. Among those on the host committee: State Reps. Chris Blazejewski, John Carnevale, Maria Cimini, John DeSimone, Speaker Gordon Fox, Scott Slater, Ray Hull and Majority Leader Nick Mattiello. Also, on the invite are City Democratic Party Chairwoman Lauren Nocera, State Reps-elect Bill Obrien and Joe Shekarchi. And from the state Senate: Frank Ciccone Paul Jabour, Majority Leader Dominick Ruggerio, Juan Pichardo, Maryellen Goodwin, Josh Miller. Also former Mayor Joseph R. Paolino Jr. and Democratic State Chairman Ed Pacheco, as well as a bevy of Solomon’s Democratic council colleagues, including Nick Narducci, Terry Hassett, Sam Zurier, Seth Yurdin, Sabina Matos, Wilbur Jennings and David Salvatore. Solomon also has enlisted such business community stalwarts as Arnold `Buff’ Chace, Mike Van Leesten and Don Sweitzer.
