Providence, R.I. – Falling revenue is causing Indian-run Connecticut casino Mohegan Sun to cut its workforce. The casino laid off 355 workers and reassigned 120 others this week. Mohegan Sun brought in three percent less revenue in August than it did the same month last year - sixty-seven million dollars, down from sixty-nine million.
Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut is having the same problem. Its slot revenue was down six percent this year. It made fifty-nine million dollars in August, compared to sixty-three million a year ago.
This is the first time Mohegan Sun has had mass layoffs. Through attrition, the casino has eliminated nine-thousand jobs since the recession began.
