Muriel Mackie and Daniel Mackie

PROVIDENCE, RI – During World War II, women on the home front were called into duty to help with the war efforts.

Muriel Mackie talks to her son Daniel Mackie about how she became an air raid warden in Pawtucket.

After her work as an air raid warden, Muriel had a long career as a teacher in Warwick.

She passed away three years ago, at the age of 86.

Excerpts from the Rhode Island StoryCorps archive were selected and produced by Shana Weinberg in collaboration with staff at WRNI.
