National Grid and Block Island wind farm sign new contract

Providence, R.I. – Governor Don Carcieri says National Grid has signed a new 20-year agreement to buy electricity generated by Deepwater Wind's wind farm off of Block Island.

The agreement caps the price of electricity from Deepwater's Block Island wind farm at 24 cents per kilowatt-hour in its first year of operation.

Once the agreement is submitted, the state public utilities commission will have 45 days to make a decision on it.
