PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A new city council has been appointed in the cash strapped city of Central Falls.
The three member council was selected after members of the elected council refused to comply with policies put in place by a state-appointed receiver.
Mark Pfeiffer, the retired superior court judge who was picked to oversee city finances, appointed the new council. It's made up of elected city councilor James Diossa, former city councilor Robert Ferri and former Central Falls finance director Edna Poulin.
Mark Pfeiffer took over as receiver over the summer and quickly demoted Mayor Charles Moreau to an advisory status. The state law that allowed Pfeiffer to assume his role was upheld by a Superior Court judge last month.
