Providence, R.I. – Nearly 200 people waited in the rain Wednesday morning for the grand opening of the Department of Motor Vehicles headquarters in Cranston. DMV employees handed out numbers at the door and directed visitors through the three-story building.
DMV administrator Sally Strachen says the new location has helped better organize the DMV.
"I hope to dispel the negative impression people have about the DMV because the people who work here care," she says. "I think this building is going to help us do that; I think this building respects the public. So I think we're starting off on a better foot."
Strachen says efficiencies, such as one-stop shopping for a license, registration, and part of the title work should whittle down waiting times that used to stretch for hours at the former Pawtucket location.
