New England Innocence Project Event at Aidan's in Bristol

Mar 29, 2013

The New England Innocence Project is holding a fund-raising event on Monday, April 1, at Aidan’s Pub in Bristol from 6 to 9 p.m.

Join Roger Williams University law students, lawyer Betty Anne Waters and Dennis Maher for an evening of  fun and food to help the New England Innocence Project in its efforts to provide legal help to free the wrongly convicted.

Waters put herself through college and RWU law school  and became a lawyer to free her brother, Kenny Walters, who spent 18 years in prison for a crime he did not commit. He walked out of prison in 2001 after Betty Anne Waters tenacious legal defense proved that he was wrongly convicted. The Waters story was the inspiration for the 2010 movie ``Conviction’’ that starred Hilary Swank playing Betty Anne Waters.

Maher spent 19 years behind bars for a crime he did not commit and was exonerated due to DNA evidence. Maher is currently married with two children and will celebrate his 10th anniversary of freedom on April 3rd.

This event features free Aidan’s delicious appetizers and a raffle with such prizes as PPAC tickets, golf at East Greenwich Country Club and tickets to the Pawtucket Red Sox.
