As the NCAA Division I basketball tournaments begin, a handful of teams from New England will be in action.

The Providence College men’s team has to win a preliminary round game before the tournament really gets going- part of what’s called the First Four. Two other New England teams, the Universities of Vermont and Rhode Island begin play later this week.

On the women’s side, New England’s only representatives both come from Connecticut. Quinnipiac University is a first round underdog and U. Conn, which at 107 straight wins is never an underdog.

While the Division I tournaments are just getting under way, Division III will crown its champion this weekend.

Massachusetts is well represented. Amherst and Tufts made the Final Four in the women’s bracket and for the men, Williams and Babson.
