Boston today is hosting its 44th annual outdoor Boston Pops show and fireworks display, New England’s biggest Fourth of July celebration.

This year’s concert along the Charles River is expected to attract as many as 300,000 spectators.

It’s the 23rd July 4th show for Keith Lockhart, conductor of Boston Pops.

“I have to say of all the things in my life, this is one that does not grow old,” Lockhart said. “What an amazing tradition to be part of!”

Lockhart says he’s looking forward to the broad mix of performers including pop singer Andy Grammer, singer-songwriter Melissa Etheridge, and Leslie Odom Jr. from Broadway’s “Hamilton.”

The orchestra is self-producing the event for the first time ever this year.
