New Group Hopes To Celebrate And Unite RI’s Jamaican Community

This weekend, Jamaica celebrated 55 years of independence. In Rhode Island, residents with Jamaican roots marked the occasion by launching the Jamaican Association of Rhode Island.

The group hopes to bring together the local Jamaican community. Founder Desmond Ranglin says the mission is rooted in the Jamaican national anthem.

“Out of many, one people. So we come together collectively to create opportunities for Jamaicans who are living in Rhode Island,” Ranglin said.

According to Ranglin, more than a thousand people attended a launch party at Hope High School on Saturday.

“It was a massive success, and everyone is looking forward to next year already,” Ranglin said hoping for an annual tradition.
