New Regulations Take Aim at Medical Mistakes

The case of a Rhode Island Hospital surgeon who drilled holes on the wrong side of a patient's head last month is fueling debate about whether hospitals and the state do enough to prevent medical errors. The Rhode Island Department of Health has issued a study that concludes medical errors have been underreported for years. It is revising regulations to correct that problem. But that's not enough for some critics.
