Providence, R.I. – If you want to see the inside of Fort Adams in Newport, you won't get very far without a tour guide. But supporters of the fort want to change that. A plan they're working on sees the fort transformed into a open fort, with picnicking, arts festivals and performances.
Eric Hertfelder is the Executive Director of Fort Adams Trust, a group designed to support the maintenance and restoration of the fort. He's hoping Rhode Islanders approve a bond issue this Fall that would mean $1.5 million toward the new Fort Adams project. WRNI's Bob Seay recently toured the fort with Hertfelder and recorded an interview atop the 153-year-old structure.
