Newport City Councilor Pleads No Contest To Assault

Jul 24, 2014

A Newport city councilor has pleaded no contest to an assault charge.  Rhode Island State Police arrested 45 year old Newport city councilor Michael Farley for allegedly assaulting a contractor. Farley accused the contractor of stealing a ladder. The contractor says he believed the ladder he was using belonged to the  homeowner of the house he was working on, and not Farley, who lives next door.

The two got into an argument that allegedly led to a physical confrontation, and a call to Newport police. Farley was arraigned Wednesday in district court in Newport. The judge ordered him to have no contact with the victim, and to pay for medical expenses.
