Newport Tests Crowdsourcing Safety App for St. Patrick's Day Parade
The Newport Police Department is trying something new for tomorrow’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade-- they're giving citizens with smart phones another way to help keep the city safe.
The police will be testing a mobile app called VizSafe, which lets citizens share pictures and videos with the police department and first responders. The VizSafe app can be downloaded for free on iPads, iPhones, and android devices. It can also be accessed online.
The app isn’t intended to replace 911, and all emergencies should still be reported by phone.
