The city of Pawtucket is coming out against a medical marijuana retail store proposed by a team that includes retired Pawtucket Police Chief George Kelley and former Democratic Party chair Bill Lynch.
The group wants to grow its marijuana in the city's To Kalon or TK social club. Doug Hadden with Pawtucket City Hall says that's not an appropriate use for the building.
"We just do not think in such a prominent place for such an historic building that that is the right use for that building," he says, "or that it would send the right message about the city and what the city is trying to become."
But City Hall's concerns may be unnecessary. The president of the TK club says the building is for sale and the owners are going with another buyer.
The so called compassion center proposal is one of 18 applications under review by the Department of Health.
