The golden age of Providence College sports continues as the school today unveiled plans for a $37.5 million athletics center which will include a new basketball practice facility and more space for the athletic department.

To be called the Ruane Friar Development Center, the facility is named for former PC trustee board chairman Michael Ruane, a 1971 PC grad, and his wife, Elizabeth. In addition to a financial commitment to create the Michael Ruane endowed chair in economics, the gift is the largest the college has received from a living alumnus.

The facility will be attached to Alumni Hall. The first phase is slated to be completed in 2017. The Friars basketball team is off to its best start in 27 years and has been ranked as high as 14th in the national in national polls. The PC hockey team is the defending NCAA National Champion and has been ranked No. 1 in the country so far this season.
