Plunderdome Trial Opens
By Deborah Becker
Providence, RI – Jury selection began Wednesday in the corruption trial of Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr. The trial of Cianci and three other defendents is expected to take about two months. Also on trial are Cianci's former top aide, Frank Corrente, tow operator Richard Autiello; and businessman Edward Voccola.
Cianci is represented by Boston lawyer Richard Egbert. Egbert is no stranger to Rhode Island courtrooms. Among his other clients are former Rhode Island Governor Edward DiPrete, who pleaded guilty to state corruption charges.
WRNI’s Deborah Becker discussed trial strategy with former Rhode Island Attorney General Jeff Pine.
