A Poem Remembering the Station Fire
By DAVE DRAGONE
RIPR – February 21, 2003. Many of us awoke that morning and heard the devastating news that the night before a fast-moving fire spread through The Station nightclub in West Warwick. The fire resulted in 100 fatalities and over 200 injuries, becoming the fourth deadliest nightclub fire in U.S. history. Since then, Rhode Islanders have struggled to absorb the profound, unfathomable impact this singular event has had on the fire's victims and our entire community. And we've tried so hard to find words to capture our torment. In this week's This week we hear piercing words about the fire from poet Dave Dragone. Dave Dragone works as a piano tuner, violin instructor, and poet. Dragone and his family have lived in Rhode Island for 33 years.
