PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence police chief Dean Esserman has today off - but it's not because of vacation or sickness. He's been suspended for one day as the result of a verbal altercation with a subordinate.
The confrontation happened Friday, according to a statement from the mayor's office. But the city is withholding details because it's a personnel matter.
The punishment was imposed by Esserman's new boss, Public Safety Commissioner Steven Pare. The position of public safety commissioner was not filled under the administration of former mayor David Cicilline.
