Profound Loss
By SEYCHELLE HOFFER
RIPR – In the early twentieth century, the poet Kahlil Gibran wrote, "When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight." This is a poignant, inspiring, and, yes, complicated sentiment for those of us who struggle with profound loss during our lifetimes. As Seychelle Hoffer notes, grief is remarkably complex and one of life's most enduring challenges.
Seychelle Hoffer is a small animal veterinarian in Charlestown, RI who has a special interest in acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine. She lives in West Kingston with her husband and, not surprisingly, a houseful of animals. In addition to her work as a veterinarian, Hoffer has a passion for yoga, reading, horseback riding, and ocean swimming.
