PROVIDENCE, RI – The board of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce has voted to endorse the pension overhaul plan unveiled this week by state officials.
In a statement, the chamber says it believes the proposed legislation addresses critical issues plaguing Rhode Island's pension structure. The business group says the plan offered by Treasurer Gina Raimondo and Governor Lincoln Chafee offers a foundation for a stronger retirement system.
In related news, a conservative-leaning think tank says it has formed a task force to provide commentary and analysis on the pension issue.
Rhode Island Center for Freedom and Prosperity CEO Mike Stenhouse says what happens here could set a national precedent on pension overhauls.
