Providence officer gets 40 years for rape

Providence, RI – A Providence police officer convicted of raping a woman at a police substation has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Marcus Huffman was found guilty last spring of picking up the woman outside a Providence nightclub and driving her to the substation where he sexually assaulted her.

Huffman was among the officers who showed up to take the victim's report.

In a written statement, Providence Police Chief Dean Esserman thanked the Attorney General's office and called the 40-year sentence appropriate. Esserman also stressed that Huffman does not represent the Providence Police Department and what its officers stand for.
