The chairman of the Providence Republican City Committee was removed from his post yesterday after his arrest on child molestation charges.

Ray Bolden, 33, who is also an apostle at the Legion of Christ Ministries, was stripped of the chairmanship, which he has held since 2015, after the arrest, said Republican State Chairman Brandon Bell.

``While Mr. Bolden is entitled to his presumption of innocence,’’ said Bell in a statement. ``He has been removed as chairman.’’

Bolden was arraigned on charges of first degree child molestation, second-degree child molestation and  third degree sexual assault. He was ordered held without bail.

Earlier today, State Democratic Chairman Joseph McNamara called on Bell to remove Bolden.
